Administrative / Biographical History
The Coroner's Court was established in 1967 under the Coroner's Ordinance (Cap 14) to handle inquiries into deaths arising from unusual circumstances.
Scope and Content
The series comprises case files of the Coroner's Court relating to inquiries into deaths. The contents of files include post-mortem examination reports, police statements, photographs, sketches, autopsy orders, minutes, memoranda, press-cuttings, lists of exhibits and notes of proceedings.
Physical Description
Hard and soft cover folders, 34-35 x 23-23.5 x 0.5-3 cm. Papers fastened using Treasury tags.
Arrangement System
Year and consecutive single number system, number starting at '1' each year with 'DE' (Death Enquiry) prefix and an (NT), (HK) or (K) suffix. Range of control symbols DE No. 1/1966(HK) - DE No. 86/74(HK); DE No. 1/67(K) - DE No. 108/74(K); DE No.1/70(NT) - DE No. 46/74(NT).

Finding Aids
A microfilm copy of the file register, which accompanied the files at the time of transfer, was made by the PRO. The original register was subsequently returned to the transferring agency.
